Autodesk Smoke 2013 Ships for Video Editing and Effects

Following NAB 2012, thousands of new users have been working and experimenting with Smoke 2013 through the trial free download and active forum communities. Autodesk says the Smoke development team has fielded thousands of inquiries and product recommendations during this period, and the product has won six industry awards.
Smoke 2013 is designed for editors working in professional video production, corporate video, online video and other content creation scenarios where productions require editing and effects. The new application puts editing and effects functions within a single timeline-based workflow, has a purpose-built user interface and runs on Apple MacBook Pro and Apple iMac computers using high-bandwidth Thunderbolt storage and IO.

New functions emerging directly from of user recommendations, according to Autodesk developers, include the ability to drag and drop a clip from the source player into the timeline, ability to expand and collapse the timeline FX pipeline area, and the redesign of UI and interface elements to speed up operations. The workflow combines track-based editing, standard editing conventions and Autodesk creative tools.
ConnectFX is a node-based effects and compositing facility accessed inside the timeline without leaving the editorial environment. As well as Autodesk’s effects tools editors have finishing tools, Action true 3D compositing environment, the Colour Warper for grading and colour matching, a Master Keyer for quick chroma keying, and stereoscopic 3D editing and effects.
